Zotero

This guide explains how to use Zotero to store and organize your own collection of references and to automatically generate in-text citations and reference lists in various citation styles, including APA and MLA.

Add notes to references

To add your own notes to a reference that you've added to Zotero, click on its title in Zotero and then click on the Notes tab in the column on the right-hand side of the page and click on the Add button to add your note.

Annotating PDFs saved in Zotero

If you click on the link for a document's PDF from within Zotero, the document will open with your computer's default PDF viewer.

You can then annotate the PDF with an annotation program such as Adobe Professional, FoxIt, PDF-XChange, Microsoft Reader, etc.

When you save your annotations to the PDF file, the annotations will sync with your Zotero account.
