What is the UMGC Library?

We're an online library where you can find articles, ebooks, and other resources for a class assignment. Our website has plenty of guides showing you how to use the library to do research! Need more help? Chat 24/7, email us, or set up an appointment via Ask a Librarian.

  1. Check the Author's Credentials: Make sure the author is qualified to write on the topic. Look for their education, experience, and other publications.
  2. Look at the Publication Date: Ensure the information is current and relevant to your topic.
  3. Evaluate the Publisher's Reputation: Use sources from reputable publishers known for their accuracy and reliability.
  4. Identify Any Bias: Be aware of any potential bias in the information. Consider the author's perspective and the purpose of the publication.
  5. Verify with Other Sources: Cross-check the information with other credible sources to confirm its accuracy.
  6. Understand the Purpose: Determine why the information was created. Is it to inform, persuade, entertain, or sell something?
