PMAN 634: Foundations of Project Management
A Library Subject Guide
Assigment Tips
Searching for scholarly articles in the Library databases
- Start with subject specific databases
Directly search databases related to project management by using the ones listed at http://libguides.umgc.edu/c.php?g=423624&p=2893630 - OneSearch can be used, but
Onesearch is a useful general database that doesn't search all of our resources. It's best for general research. - Search for topics individually and use quotation marks
You may have better luck doing separate searches for a topic such as "lessons learned" and retrospectives. Make sure you are using quotation marks to weed out unrelated results.
So the example would be two searches, one using:
"project management" and "lessons learned"
and a second using:
"project management" and ("retrospectives" or "project retrospectives")
Finding relevant articles and sources
- Looking for general information
Project management ebooks are a good source of general information on your topic. You can find a list or ebook databases in the "Background Information" box at http://libguides.umgc.edu/c.php?g=423624&p=2893630
- Articles are too specific or not about my project area
Many articles will focus on specific situations or examples where project management is used. *Your* project may be in IT, but the only "good" articles you can find are about health care. This is ok, as you will need to infer how the project management information would apply to your project even if the article is from a different field.
Week 11 Retrospectives vs. Lessons Learned
For this assignment, you'll need to use two separate search statements:
"project management" and "lessons learned"
and a second using:
"project management" and ("retrospectives" or "project retrospectives")
- Search the databases listed on the Resources page of this guide at http://libguides.umgc.edu/c.php?g=423624&p=2893630
