Library Services for Alumni
Book Borrowing
The following options for borrowing books may be available to you:
- UMBC Special Borrowers Card
The Albin O. Kuhn Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County offers a special borrowers card. UMGC alumni can obtain this free card from the UMBC Library and can borrow materials from that library only. - Other University of Maryland and Affiliated Institution (USMAI) libraries (on-site use only)
UMGC alumni may review books and other materials on-site at the other USMAI libraries, but will not be able to borrow them. - Your public library and other local libraries
Your public library is a good source of materials and may be able to get books through interlibrary loan if you need something they do not have. You may also be able to visit local academic libraries and use their materials on-site. - UMD (College Park) Community Borrowers Program
The University Libraries at the University of Maryland, College Park offer a Community Borrowers Program. Fee plus Friends of Library Card.
Database Access
Due to licensing restrictions, we cannot offer remote login access to UMGC alumni. However, these other options may be available:
- Visit other University of Maryland and Affiliated Institution (USMAI) libraries
Alumni can visit any of the other USMAI libraries, including McKeldin Library at the University of Maryland, College Park, or the Priddy Library at Shady Grove, to use the electronic databases to which they subscribe. In some locations, you may need to request a guest login. - Log in to your public library (or visit other local libraries)
Your public library card may give you remote login access to an array of research databases. You may also be able to visit local academic libraries and use their online resources on-site. - Use free search services
Sometimes services, such as the following, will link to free versions of articles.
